Scratch that.  Tom is never going to retire.  For some reason he’s convinced he’ll die if he does.  Even if it’s a bit of an overreaction, it still makes him more introspective than the kind of person who thinks banging on a stranger’s back door at 2 AM is a “prank”.  That really could get you killed.
